To drive a wheelchair Taxi in York you must take a Wheelchair assessment test with either The Blue Lamp Trust or Green Penny.
Dignity Travel offers a driver training courses to guarantee 100% pass rate.

Private drivers new to special needs transport are often only given a short demonstration by unqualified salespeople on how to secure a wheelchair in the vehicle.
I have seen some horrendous situations over the years and want to stop this happening.
We offer training to anyone who needs it.
We will cover:

• wheelchair positioning
• passenger positioning
• the correct restraints for the size and weight of wheelchair
• we will explain the necessity of an occupant restraint system
• we will share best practice and make you confident in wheelchair loading & unloading

Remember in a crash situation the wheelchair will be thrown forward weighing up to 4 times its normal weight with devastating effects if it is not restrained correctly as the driver it is your legal responsibility for your passenger’s safety.
